The Lawyer Top 20 Cases

The Lawyer this week unveiled the Top 20 Cases to watch in 2014. It’s shaping up to be a bumper court year with spats involving, amongst others, RBS, Depfa Bank and MasterCard.

Clifford Chance, Weil Gotshal & Manges and Nabarro will all be forced to defend themselves in court after disgruntled clients issued claims against the three firms.

A series of long-running cases will also reach their pinnacle, including the mammoth £300m Tchenguiz battle against the Serious Fraud Office.

The Libor-related fraudulent misrepresentation battle against Barclays will finally be heard, with the Wilkes Partnership representing the claimant in place of Cooke Young & Keidan.

These mammoth cases are fiercely fought, as the continuing fallout from the $1.6bn Excalibur dispute demonstrates. The claim, first listed as one to watch by The Lawyer in 2012, was thrown out in December, with Mr Justice Christopher Clarke delivering some severe blows to the claimant lawyers, Clifford Chance

Whether you’re in the blue or the red corner, these will be fights worth watching.
