Fashion retailer Monsoon has been named and shamed by the Government after it was found in breach of paying less than the national minimum wage (NMW) to more than a quarter of its UK staff. The retailer was found to be unintentionally paying less than the NMW after forcing its staff to buy clothes from its stores.

Gateley explains that Monsoon’s cheap promotion strategy was the cause of the breach because the company forced its employees to buy clothes from the store to wear as uniform. Although it offered a discounted price for the clothes it meant that many workers were taking home less than the NWM. As a result Monsoon was fined £28,000 and order to pay £100,000 back to its staff.  Click here for more information.
