Watson Farley & Williams has hired an aviation finance team including two partners from Reed Smith.
Asset finance partners Rex Rosales and Siva Subramanian, along with three associates, are leaving the US firm this Friday and joining Watson Farley next week.
The move should significantly strengthen the UK firm’s aviation finance team and also effectively launch a rail finance practice.
The best-known member of the team, Rosales, joined Reed Smith in 2007 from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, where he was a partner (8 May 2007). He is currently head of the US firm’s transport finance group.
Subramaniam, who also spent several years at Freshfields, joined Reed Smith in 2008 from Clyde & Co (3 April 2008).
Watson Farley managing partner Michael Greville said: “Aviation and rail fit in naturally with our shipping and general asset finance practices and whilst we have some expertise in these sectors we don’t have a well-developed practice.
“The recruitment of this team takes us straight into these markets at a level which is complementary to our other practices, including strong relationships with a number of financial institutions which are already important clients of WFW, and offers tremendous scope for development in our offices in Europe, Asia and the USA.”
The Reed Smith associates joining Watson Farley are Andrew Harper, Karine Oates and Jahnavi Ramachandran.
In a statement Reed Smith said: “We wish Rex and Siva all the best in their future endeavours.”
