Dechert launches in Hong Kong” />Dechert has launched an office in Hong Kong, taking a former M&A partner from Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker.
Basil Hwang only joined Paul Hastings last October from O’Melveny & Myers, where he was counsel. He is launching Dechert’s new office with one local associate and three lawyers from the firm’s international network.
The three current Dechert lawyers are expected to start on 1 January. They will feature one DC-based financial services partner and associates from New York and London.
Dechert’s international network is aligned on practice group lines and its financial service practice group in particular has been considering a launch in the key financial and money centre of Hong Kong for several months.
Hwang is known as a private equity specialist who has been involved in numerous high-profile securities offerings and investments in the People’s Republic of China.
Recent examples include the Nasdaq IPOs of Shanda Interactive Entertainment, China Finance Online and Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing and the Hong Kong listings of Star Cruises and China Glass Holdings.
