Ex-Dorsey partner joins Mishcon after insider dealing acquittal

Former Dorsey & Whitney partner Andrew Rimmington, whose trial for insider dealing collapsed in 2010, has joined Mishcon de Reya as one of two partner hires intended to give the firm’s corporate team a boost.

Rimmington and Appleby partner Gray Smith have both joined Mishcon’s London corporate department.

Smith is an investment funds lawyer qualified in five jurisdictions and specialising in non-contentious work, while Rimmington, who has spent the past two years as a consultant to Affinia Group, specialises in M&A, private equity and multi-jurisdiction equity and debt offerings.

Rimmington and former McDermott Will & Emery partner Michael McFall were acquitted on charges of insider dealing in June 2010. The pair were accused of being passed information on Novartis’s £305m takeover of Neutec by the latter’s finance director Peter King, who was also acquitted.

According to Mishcon head of corporate Nick Davis, Smith and Rimmington have joined a buoyant practice.

“Between May 2010 and April 2011 our practice experienced a 21 per cent increase in turnover on the previous year,” said Davis.
