Dewey & LeBoeuf has moved into the London private equity market with a double swoop on Taylor Wessing.
UK private equity head Mark Davis and fellow private equity partner Russell Van Praagh will join the US firm as it looks to leverage off its growing international private equity footprint.
London corporate head Stephen Horvath said: “We’re very excited about this. They will sit in the heart of the M&A group.”
The pair will join up with a group of corporate partners numbering 20, but they will be the first dedicated private equity partners.
Horvath added that Dewey was looking to recruit more lawyers into its leveraged finance practice, while its global head of corporate finance Frank Adams has also relocated to the City.
He continued: “These are key components for giving Mark and Russell the tools to do their work.”
Davis lists a number of major private equity houses among his client base. Horvath said that he expected the pair eventually to bring a good proportion of clients with them, while also helping the firm service existing international clients.
He said: “We have a huge amount of mandates and we cannot take advantage as much as we’d like without the London piece which Mark and Russell give us.”
Taylor Wessing managing partner Tim Eyles said: “Mark and Russell have both made a positive contribution to the team and we wish them the very best in this next stage of their careers.”
