CMS Bureau Francis Lefebvre has bolstered its European and competition expertise with the arrival of a former European Court of Justice (ECJ) judge as an of counsel.
Melchior Wathelet joined the firm at the end of October after eight years with the ECJ in Luxembourg. He became part of the European and competition department, which now boasts four partners and 12 other lawyers.
Wathelet’s career spans posts within the French government, including a role as deputy minister for justice and economic affairs, as well as academic posts in a variety of universities. He is currently a law professor at the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium.
The hire reinforces Francis Lefebvre’s expertise in European Community law, in both economic and judicial matters.
