Amazing how many people would prefer to host a party at their homes (“good atmosphere, good food and comfy sofas”) rather than any one of the amazing venues around London – and as for the partner who suggested his bed as the best venue, he should be ashamed of himself. Not surprisingly, sporting events proved hugely popular, with Ascot, Brands Hatch and Wimbledon trailing Rugby in the popularity stakes.
Just outside the top 10 was Kensington Roof Gardens, attractive not least because there are “live flamingos wandering around the garden outside the window of the bar”.
For a more unusual venue, why not try the Great Hall at the Royal Courts of Justice (“wonderful building, great history and rarely used”), the Hurlingham Club (“fabulous for croquet”) or the Electric Cinema on Portobello Road.
