Sidley Austin Brown & Wood has secured its first London acquisition finance partner with the hire of Ashurst partner Stephen Clark, as the firm continues its lateral hiring spree.

Clark, who focuses on real estate finance, counts HSBC as a key client. Sidley hopes the hire (first revealed on www.thelawyer.com, 7 April) will complement its London real estate securitisation and structured finance offering.

Clark is the latest in a string of high-profile laterals for the US firm. Two years ago it recruited real estate structured finance partners Debbie Carslaw and Mark Menhennet from Denton Wilde Sapte, and in 2004 it hired John Woodhall, the former head of securitisation at Clifford Chance. That was followed by the recruitment of Linklaters securitisation star Richard Hughes late last year.

The hire brings to 22 the number of partners in Sidley’s London office. The vast majority focus on securitisation, structured finance and structured real estate.
