DWF generated turnover of £60.1m in the past financial year, a rise of nine per cent on the £55.3m it made in 2007-08.

The percentage growth for the full year is marginally lower than it was at the half-year stage, when the Manchester-headquartered firm recorded growth of 12.5 per cent for the first six months of the 2008-09 financial year (17 November 2008).

DWF poached two teams of insurance lawyers – including six partners – from Weightmans in October 2008 with which to bulk up its fledgling London practice (20 October 2008).

The move dented Weightmans’ profitability, but turnover grew at Weightmans by four per cent from £50m to £52m over the 2008-09 financial year (11 May).

Larger northwest firm Halliwells recorded a drop in turnover this year. It brought in £83m, a drop of five per cent on last year’s figure of £87m (11 May).
