Bird & Bird has made up four lawyers to its partnership in its annual round of promotions.

None of the four are based in London with the firm’s Madrid, Rome, Stockholm and Frankfurt offices gaining one new partner apiece.

Bird & Bird did promote two of its City lawyers to the partnership within the past six months. Stuart Blythe, who joined from Data communications provider Viatel last May, was promoted on 1 February while home-grown finance lawyer Andrew Hallgarth made partner on 11 December last year.

Bird & Bird’s chief executive David Kerr said the promotions reflected the fact that the firm was continuing to grow its business despite the challenging economic times.

“We welcome these four exceptional lawyers to the Bird & Bird partnership, all of whom have proven track records of helping our clients achieve success,” Kerr added.

The past year has seen significant international expansion by Bird & Bird. Over the past 12 months it has opened in Finland via a merger with Fennica Attorneys and has also set up offices in Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Shanghai.

The firm also merged with London firm Lane & Partners and entered into a global association with the former Alban Tay Mahtani & de Silva in Singapore.

The firm’s four newest partners are communications group head Blanca Escribano in Madrid, commercial litigator Osvaldo Lombardi in Rome, M&A specialist Anders Nilsson in Stockholm and Patrick Sinewe, a corporate tax expert in Frankfurt.
