Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer‘s former head of insolvency Sandy Shandro will become a door tenant at 3 Verulam Buildings (3VB), the set announced today (6 December).

Shandro will remain as dean of the law faculty at University College of London (UCL), a five-year position he took up when he quit Freshfields last September. He had retired from the magic circle firm’s equity in 2006 to take advantage of Freshfields’ old pension system.

Head of 3VB Christopher Symons QC said: “We are delighted to announce this important alliance. It represents a significant step forward for chambers’ insolvency and restructuring practice and underlines chambers’ recent success in that area.”

Shandro, who has practised law since 1979, has advised on the Eurotunnel restructuring as well as representing Swiss International Airlines on its acquisitions of assets from Swissair. As well as his decade-long stint at Freshfields Shandro spent time at Clifford Chance.

He said in a statement: “3VB has a great deal of restructuring and insolvency experience and expertise, and I am delighted to have been asked to contribute to the development of their practice in this increasingly important area.”
