Hill Dickinson is getting rid of the salaried partner role as part of an overall restructure of its partnership model.

The firm, which currently has salaried partner, fixed-share equity and equity partner roles, will replace salaried partnership with salaried membership.

Unlike salaried partners, salaried members will have voting rights, put capital into the business and share in the profit of the firm.

Not all salaried partners will become salaried members, as the firm is also creating the new position of legal director.

Managing partner Peter Jackson argued that the measures are “not a way of getting people out of the partnership”, but rather “very much in line with market practice at mid-tier and large firms”.

The changes will be made by 30 April 2010.
