Robert Smith, 23, fell into a gully after leaving the bar at Watermouth Cove Holiday Park at about 12am on 15 July 1996. According to the High Court claim, Smith and his friends, who had been camping at the site, had been encouraged by the site owner Alan Parr to go up to the headland near Ilfracombe after the bar closed. Smith was walking along the headland between two trees when he fell into a gully 25 metres deep, connected to the sea by an underground tunnel. He suffered burst fractures of two vertebrae. Smith is suing Parr, trading as Watermouth Cove Holiday Park, for damages.
