European moves: 26 June 2014

All the latest partner hires and other appointments within Continental European firms and offices.


Covington & Burling has introduced a European head of public policy and government affairs role to the firm as it looks to beef up its offering in Brussels (12 June 2014). The firm has hired former Freshfields Bruckhauss Deringer lawyer Sebastian Vos, who worked at the magic circle firm’s antitrust, competition and trade practice group between 2003 and 2007. Vos was most recently a Brussels-based director at public affairs consultancy Fipra, which he joined in 2008.

DLA Piper has appointed Catherine Pogorzelski as a corporate partner in its Luxembourg office. Pogorzelski joins from Arendt & Medernach where she was a senior associate.

Central & Eastern Europe

Dentons has named Warsaw partner Pawel Debowski as the sole chair of its European real estate group in the wake of co-chair Eric Rosedale’s departure to Greenberg Traurig (18 June 2014). Debowski was appointed as co-chair of European real estate earlier this year.


Taylor Wessing has promoted 12 lawyers to its partnership with the majority based in Germany in a reduced promotions round (18 June 2014). The firm has made seven partner appointments in Germany including two in Munich, two in Berlin, two in Hamburg and one in Dusseldorf. In addition, two lawyers have been promoted in Warsaw, with Sylwester Zydowiczpromoted in the real estate practice and Krystian Stanasiukmade up in employment and pensions.


Garrigues has hired tax specialist Tomás Cantista Tavares in its Porto office. Cantista Taveres joins the firm from BMC Sociedade de Advogados, where he was a partner.


White & Case has strengthened its Italian and UK capital markets practice with the appointment of Paul Alexander as a local partner in the Milan office. Alexander joins from Linklaters, where he was a managing associate in Milan.
