Palamon buys majority stake in Simplify Legal Group

QualitySolicitors’ owner Palamon Capital Partners has acquired an undisclosed majority shareholding in Simplify Legal Group.

Recently-established Simplify operates a business-to-business model and comprises conveyancing firms Move With Us and DC Law, and the probate specialist Chorus Law.

The move is the latest extension of pan-European investor Palamon’s reach into the legal market. The private equity firm bought its controlling stake in high-street law franchise QualitySolicitors in October 2011 (20 October 2011).

Palamon partner Daan Knottenbelt said the combination of “the scale and technological expertise of Simplify” and “the national high street coverage and consumer reach of QualitySolicitors” would provide growth opportunities for both businesses.

The management teams of Simplify and QualitySolicitors will stay in place to lead their existing businesses.

A statement on the deal, the details of which remain tightly under wraps, said further information about how the companies will work together will be disclosed at a later date.

QualitySolicitors chief executive Eddie Ross said that an online customer platform is being developed for the franchise and that Simplify’s technology experience would enhance that.

Palamon’s investment comes less than a week after Cheshire-based industrial disease firm Roberts Jackson confirmed it had received a £15m cash injection from private equity firm NorthEdge Capital (25 July 2014).
