British Land has unveiled its first formal panel, listing firms including Addleshaw Goddard, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Herbert Smith Freehills, Jones Day, King & Wood Mallesons, Mayer Brown and Simmons & Simmons as advisers.
The FTSE 100 property company will also take advice from a number of other firms providing advice in specialist areas, including Shepherd & Wedderburn and Carey Olsen.
British Land appointed its first general counsel and company secretary this year, hiring former HSBC company secretary and Freshfields partner Elaine Williams in November.
The review was started prior to her appointment in November although she was involved in the latter stages of the review and the final decision-making process.
Williams said: “We were extremely impressed with the quality of the proposals submitted and in particular the thoughtful suggestions for effective collaboration and efficient provision of legal services. We are looking forward to developing closer collaborative ways of working with our panel firms.”
Mayer Brown and legacy SJ Berwin were the company’s chief advisers from 2012 onwards, when it ran its first formal tender for legal advice. Despite not entering into a formal panel arrangement it selected the pair as chief advisers.
The Lawyer Market Intelligence shows that the company has also instructed Carey Olsen, Freshfields, Irwin Mitchell, Jones Day and Wragge Lawrence Graham & Co in the past.
