ACAS publishes new guidance on collective redundancies - .PDF file.
Following changes to the law on collective redundancy consultation, which took effect on 6 April 2013, ACAS has published guidance for employers on how to manage collective redundancies. From 6 April 2013 (subject to transitional provisions), where an employer proposes to dismiss as redundant 100 or more employees at one ‘establishment’ within a period of 90 days or less, consultation with representatives of the affected employees must begin at least 45 days before the first dismissal takes effect, reduced from 90 days. The position where there are proposals to dismiss between 20 and 99 employees remains unchanged and consultation must begin at least 30 days before the first dismissal takes effect.
