Slaughter and May has strengthened its ties with its European best friend law firms, moving into new joint offices in Brussels.

The UK independent is moving into the same building as best friends Italian firm Bonelli Erede Pappalardo, France-based Bredin Prat, Germany’s Hengeler Mueller and Spain’s Uria Menendez. The new offices will be at Square de Meeus in the European Quarter.

The relocations are in line with the group’s common strategy to remain independent, while working in close cooperation to offer clients a streamlined and integrated service across Europe.

All five firms signed leases earlier this month (October) and are due to move into the new premises by next summer. Their Brussels offices all focus on competition and European law.

Slaughters has had close ties to the group for several years in response to the growing globalisation of the legal market.

It most notably ceded its 30-year-old Paris office to Bredin Prat. The move, which was announced last December, saw Slaughters’ French lawyers join Bredin Prat, while the English lawyers maintained a representative English law practice in Paris.
