Two more partners quit newly merged Notts firm for Nelsons

Leading Midlands firm Nelsons has poached two more partners from newly merged rival Nottingham firm Berryman Shacklock.

Commercial property partner Richard Staniland and company and commercial lawyer Karen Medhurst are following licensing partner David Lucas to the firm, which he joined in September.

Shacklocks completed its merger with Berryman & Co on 1 December and is now called Berryman Shacklock (The Lawyer, 18 October). When the merger was announced, the firm's managing partner said he hoped to attract teams from other firms, including Nelsons.

The arrival of three new partners at Nelsons means the firm now has 46 partners. It has completed two mergers this year, joining Derby PI practice Alfred Sevier & Son in April and Derby-based commercial property firm Gadsbys in October (The Lawyer, 21 June).

Nelsons' managing partner Tim Hastings says: “We have set out to build a broad-based regional law practice with recognised strength and depth. David, Karen and Richard's skills, combined with Nelsons' existing commercial team strengthened by a number of appointments at partner level, will make the firm a major commercial player.”
