Bob Charlton, Middle East head of finance at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, has announced that he is leaving the firm to pursue other opportunities.

Charlton, a former managing partner of the London finance practice, was along with Perry Noble instrumental in reshaping Freshfields’ finance practice.

Noble left Freshfields to join former client Babcock & Brown in 2008.

Charlton moved to Dubai in February 2008 to head the firm’s regional finance practice. He was also head of the firm’s Saudi group, which has six lawyers on the ground and works in association with local firm Fares Al-Hejailan.

“I’ve enjoyed my time at Freshfields, but it’s time to move on,” said Charlton.

Charlton’s clients included Barclays Capital, Dresdner Kleinwort, HSBC and Bank of America.

His last day at the firm was on Thursday last week (30 April).
