Stephen Irwin QC has been elected vice-chairman of the Bar Council for 2003. He will join former vice-chairman Matthias Kelly QC, who was elected unopposed as 2003 Chairman earlier this month, and Clifford Allison, who has been re-elected as Treasurer.
Irwin was called to the Bar in 1976 and became Queen’s Counsel in 1997. He practises at Doughty Street Chambers. His principal practice is in clinical negligence, personal injury and multi-party actions.
Irwin has served on the Bar Council’s general management committee for the last four years and currently chairs the policy advisory group. He has previously chaired the remuneration committee and contributed to committee work on continuing professional development and on contracts.
