Judges who are "door-stepped" by reporters outside their homes. The more controversial members of the judiciary are to receive training in how to deal with tabloid hacks demanding that they explain why they have "let someone off with a slap on the wrist". The training is part of a new package of measures which includes giving judges the same right to public funding of libel actions that applies to other public servants.
Victims and families of victims of the rail crash outside Paddington, who should receive compensation without having to pin liability on any of the companies involved. Great Western, Thames Trains and Railtrack have accepted responsibility for the accident which occurred in October. The insurers for the two train companies have promised that claims will be processed quickly. The industry's claims allocation and handling agreement says that compensation should be handled by the companies for their own customers and if responsibility is later allocated to another party, the insurance companies can then sort it out.
