Freshfields Bruckhaus Derringer has won the lead mandate advising the government of Bahrain on the development of a national power plant.
The firm’s team, led by Dubai-based partner Joe Huse, won the instruction to advise on the development of the Al Dur water and power plant following a pitch.
Harnek Shoker, Freshfields of counsel, said: “We’ve advised the Bahraini government on a number of occasions. We’re still very much in the early stages of the process and we expect the project to be finalised next year.”
Freshfields has advised on two power plant projects in Bahrain: the $738.2m (£360.57m) sale of the Al Hidd plant last year and on the development of the Al Ezzel plant in 2005.
No other firms have yet been instructed to advise on the project and the Bahraini government has still to begin a formal tender process.
Shoker said: “We’re very much in the early stages of the development and it will be some time before other firms are instructed and the deal is finalised.”
