Kirklees Metropolitan Borough Council has launched a leadership programme for its legal services team.
Fifteen Kirklees lawyers will spend one or two days a month being coached in management skills such as assertiveness, persuasiveness, communication and marketing.
The coaching is being conducted in association with talent management business Azure Consulting.
Head of legal services Susan Betteridge said: “Lawyers are not trained at law school as managers and leaders, they’re trained only as lawyers, and this is about giving them the leadership and management skills that are essential.”
The leadership programme began with Kirklees’ legal management team of seven in October 2006, but has since been expanded to the tier below, adding a further eight lawyers to the group. Kirklees has 60 fee-earners in total.
