New York-based Thelen Reid & Priest is swallowing up Britton Silberman & Cervantez (BSC) to bolster its IT practice.
BSC, which specialises in advising fledgling internet companies, is being taken over to become the emerging companies division of Thelen Reid.
BSC’s team of 10 lawyers will continue to operate from its offices in San Francisco. The firm was first established in 1997 by co-partners Brent Britton, Gil Silberman and Thomas Cervantez and has built up a client base of 300 start-up businesses.
Its corporate finance capabilities have almost doubled in the last year alone, according to managing partner Silberman, now a Thelen Reid partner.
Thelen Reid is the result of the biggest ever bi-coastal law firm merger in the US, which took place in July 1998 between Thelen Marrin Johnson and Reid & Priest.
The firm is now looking for a UK merger partner. Last year it confirmed that it was considering approaches from a number of “impressive” firms (The Lawyer, 2 August 1999).
