Bakers boosts Japan with Paul Hastings hire

Baker & McKenzie has boosted its Japanese arbitration practice by scooping Paul Hastings arbitration partner Haig Oghigian into its Japanese joint enterprise GJBJ Tokyo Aoyama Aoki Koma Law Office.

Oghigian, who joined Paul Hastings’ Tokyo office in March last year, joins Bakers’ arbitration practice just two months after the appointment of Anderson Mori & Tomotsune arbitration partner Hideyuki Kobayashi.

Managing partner of Bakers’ Tokyo office Jeremy Pitts said the hires fall in line with the resurgence of the Japanese economy, which has led to a dramatic growth in Japan-related work.

“It is vital that we provide our clients with the full range of services necessary to manage these increasingly complex cross-border relationships,” he said. “The addition of Oghigian and Kobayashi meets this demand.”

Both partners will work closely with the firm’s Tokyo-based global dispute practice and will work on managing cross-border litigation and alternative dispute resolution procedures. They will also give advice on dispute-related risk, crisis management and risk management.
