Allen & Overy has released its trainee retention figures for the autumn, with 93 per cent of its final-seaters staying on in newly-qualified (NQ) positions.

The magic circle firm had 41 qualifiers, and 38 chose to apply for NQ roles. All 38 were offered jobs and accepted them. All are on permanent, rather than fixed-term, contracts. It equals A&O’s best result in a decade; the firm kept 93 per cent of qualifiers on in spring 2015.

Graduate recruitment partner James Partridge said: “These are very positive numbers and I’d like to congratulate all of our September qualifiers. To be able to put forward a 100 per cent offer rate in such an uncertain market is testament to the quality of our upcoming lawyers and demonstrates our commitment to continuing to invest in the future of legal excellence at A&O.”

In the spring, the firm kept on 30 of 37 qualifers, giving A&O an overall retention figure of 87 per cent.

A&O follows Clifford Chance in revealing its retention figures; the rest of the magic circle has yet to do so.
