If you could introduce one law, what would it be and why? A four-day week. We got the balance wrong somewhere.

Name: Tom Harkus
Firm: SNR Denton
Position: Business Development Executive
Lives: Dubai/London

What time do you start work each day? 8am

What’s the most boring thing you’ve been asked to do in your job? Counting lawyers for pitches – thank God the HR team keep an up-to-date record.

How much time do you spend on Facebook each week? A few minutes. Face-to-face is the future of social networking!

What is the most unusual Christmas present that you have received from a colleague? A cuddly Bambi toy when I was new – you know who you are!

If you could introduce one law, what would it be and why? A four-day week. We got the balance wrong somewhere.

How did you spend your last bonus? (If you have never received a bonus, how would you hope to spend it in the future)? Home improvements. One time before the recession I managed a car but it wasn’t German/Italian and it certainly wasn’t a two seater – shame.

What are the best perks of your role? The opportunities to travel to places across the world and work in the local DWS offices including my current secondment to Dubai

What do you wear on dress-down Fridays? A casual shirt but no jacket (it’s too hot in the Middle East). No string vests I’m afraid!

Have you ever been asked to do anything at work that you suspect might have been illegal? Isn’t there a European Directive governing working hours? Oh that’s right I work in the Middle East now!

How do you unwind after the end of a hard week? A cold beer and some time with the girlfriend and watching the mighty Spurs.

Do you see your colleagues on weekends? Not really. I lead separate lives!

Have you ever fallen in love at work? (If so, please provide details). No

If you were a lawyer what would your practice area be and why? I’m due to change careers and start a training contract soon and I’ve got one eye on litigation and one on financial regulation. Each case or deal is different and requires a lot of thought and lateral thinking.

What do you eat for lunch? I’m a packed lunch man but on special occasions I treat myself to a roast dinner at Fuzzys.

Is your salary (in thousands) greater than your age? Yes but only because I am young.

What items do you always carry around with you at work? I should carry my pass but I’m forever losing it. Security know me well – I think I’m on my fifth pass now.

Who do you have photos of on your desk? Nobody at present.

Corney & Barrow or The Royal Exchange? Neither – the Jam Pot or the Counting House

Soy Latte or Nescafe? Cuppa Tea – White and One

City break or weekend in the country? City break. Barcelona where you have the good weather, beach, the culture and the bars and restaurants.

Sum up your firm, chambers or employer in three words. Trans At Lantic (well after the combination anyway)
