Congratulations to Allen & Overy managing partner David Morley, whose partners have just given him a vote of confidence by extending his term by another year, as revealed yesterday on www.thelawyer.com.

The managing partner term now runs parallel with that of the senior partner – a post that will become vacant in a couple of years when Guy Beringer stands down.

And that allows Morley to stand as senior partner if he gets tired of his current job. A sophisticated retention strategy, to say the least.

But will firms have to bin the term ‘senior partner’? The age discrimination legislation comes into force next week, so further congrats to Eversheds, which trounced all its employment law rivals by getting the national papers and the Today programme to trail its research. The findings? Nobody’s prepared for the legislation. (Subtext: call your lawyers in now.) Now that’s what we call a neat PR move.
