McDermott promotes two in UK while preparing move to City’s most expensive building

US outfit McDermott Will & Emery has made up two partners in London ahead of the firm’s relocation to the 46-story Heron Tower, the City’s tallest building.

The firm has been signed up as anchor tenant for the new London landmark and will take up 25,000 sq ft of office space when it makes the move in February.

It will pay rent of £55 per sq ft, which is reportedly the highest level of rent paid in the City since the recession, and will occupy the eighth and ninth floors.

The firm’s new London partners are employment associate Sharon Tan and tax associate James Ross. The firm has made three other promotions: Philip Werner Brussels, competition), Sebastian von Lossow, (Dusseldorf, corporate), and Vincent Schroder (Munich, IP). The promotions will be effective from 1 January.

Commenting on the promotions, Europe head Hugh Nineham said: “Promoting these five excellent lawyers is part of the continued organic growth of our European business. They’ll all strengthen our high level cross-border capabilities in key practice areas for the firm. We’re very pleased to welcome them to the partnership.”
