Linklaters has made two new leadership appointments for its competition practice.
The firm has appointed Michael Cutting as global head of competition while Sir Christopher Bellamy QC has been named chairman of the practice. Both appointments take effect from 1 July.
Cutting, a partner since 1995, is experienced in the banking, energy and utilities sectors. He was previously UK head of Linklaters’ competition practice between 2004 and 2009.
He takes over from Gerwin Van Gerven, who is stepping down from the role after completing two terms. Van Gerven will now return to full-time client practice.
Cutting said: “I’m honoured to be taking on this role. Gerwin will be a hard act to follow because he’s played a huge role in building us into a top global practice. Our recent work for Intel, J&J, LG Electronics and SC Johnson demonstrates that.”
Bellamy joined Linklaters as a senior consultant in 2007. He was previously president of the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT), a post he held from 1999 to 2007.
