The head of Herbert Smith’s international banking and finance practice in Paris has been appointed global general counsel of BNP Paribas.
Georges Dirani who was also the firm’s office managing partner between 2002 and 2004, joined Herbert Smith in 2000 after a spell at Linklaters. He will leave the firm in May and take up the new post in July.
Before going into private practice Dirani was director of legal affairs at Deutsche Bank in Paris. Before that he spent five years in BNP Paribas’ legal department.
