Ashurst scoops Linklaters’ Stockholm chief

Ashurst has raided Linklaters’ Stockholm office for the hire of the magic circle firm’s Swedish senior partner Martin Börresen.

Alongside Börresen Linklaters managing associate Pontus Bergsten will also join the Ashurst office as a partner in the corporate team.

Borresen, one of the most respected corporate lawyers in Sweden, will join managing partner Jon Ericson in the firm’s Stockholm corporate team. The pair had previously worked together at Linklaters.

Ericson said: “This is a great hire for us. Martin’s one of the top corporate lawyers in Sweden.”

Borresen is expected to start on 1 May this year, with Bergsten following in August.

Ashurst senior partner Charlie Geffen said: “I’m very pleased to welcome Martin to the firm. His appointment shows that we’re committed to growing our presence in Sweden and the Nordic region by making strategic hires of market leading people.”

Ericson took over as managing partner in Stockholm last year after the office’s founding partner Jonas Bergh left to start boutique AJB Bergh.

The departure of Borresen leaves Linklaters with 10 partners in its Stockholm office.

A Linklaters spokesperson said: “We can confirm that Martin Börresen is retiring from the partnership after nearly 30 years with the firm. We thank him for his contribution to the development of our Nordic practice and wish him all the very best.”
