Wizz Air’s general counsel Owain Jones will now manage the low-cost airline’s human resources, communications and public relations arm as well as its legal function.
Jones took on the newly-created role of chief corporate officer this week, with the promotion meaning he will continue in his role as general counsel while also managing areas such as public relations and HR.
According to a spokesperson the new position will “enhance senior management capacity” to help deliver Wizz Air’s business plans. No further changes to the group’s legal structure are planned.
Jones has specialised in aviation since qualification. He worked on a number of the largest export credit-backed aircraft deals while at legacy Denton Wilde Sapte, including fleet renewals for Air Canada and LAN Chile.
The former aviation partner left the City firm to work as a commercial pilot in 2009, following a three-year secondment to the Middle East (27 August 2008). He joined Wizz Air as general counsel in 2010.
The airline has faced a string of bad press this year, after flight data specialists EUclaim alleged that none of its flights from London Luton to Budapest had left on time since June 2013.
