Move of the week 

Nadia Banno

Nadia Banno has left the BBC, where she was head of litigation, to join Baker & McKenzie’s disputes team. She will join the London office, with which she worked closely in her former role



Philomena Price has been recruited by Spratt Endicott as partner. She was formerly a senior associate at Kimbells Freeth and joins the employment team at Spratts. 


Reed Smith has hired Winston Penhall as a partner and Matt Evans as an associate. Both join the funds department from KPMG, where Evans was a senior manager and Penhall a group head.

OGR Stock Denton has recruited Gitta Altman as a partner and head of company, commercial and employment. She arrives from Thomas Eggar, where she was a corporate partner.

Steven Kempster has joined Withers as contentious trusts partner. He was formerly Taylor Wessing’s head of contentious trusts.

Esther White is now a senior associate at Charles Russell in London. She was formerly a director at Independent Trustee Services.

Litigation specialist Bivonas has recruited three to its London office. Partner Noel Deans joins from legacy Davenport Lyons, where he was a partner. Mike Appleby also comes on board as partner. He was formerly a partner at Housemans. Roland Ellis was recruited as a senior associate from Hickman & Rose, where he was a solicitor.

Fiona Ghosh has been taken on by Addleshaw Goddard. She is now a partner in the London office’s financial services team. Ghosh was formerly at Eversheds, where she was partner and co-head of the payment processing team.

Hill Dickinson has recruited Mark Ridler, James Williams, David Parry and Daniel Rubin. Rubin and Parry join as employment partners from Ward Hadaway, where they were also partners. Williams, also a partner, was a partner at Archon Solicitors while Ridler joins as a legal director from DWF, where he was a partner.

Pinsent Masons has hired London tax investigations head and partner Fiona Fernie. Fernie comes from accountancy firm BDO, where she was part of the tax investigations leadership.


Burges Salmon has hired Zoë Dhenin and Eve Wallace. Dhenin joins from being a solicitor at Pitmans while Wallace was formerly an associate at Mayer Brown. Both join the pensions department.

TLT has hired Daniel Halstead as partner. He joins from Foot Anstey and will sit in the real estate team. At Foot Anstey, he
was one of the partners to establish the Bristol office.


Surinder Dhillon has joined Irwin Mitchell as a solicitor in Birmingham. She was formerly a senior solicitor and department head at Birmingham City Council and will sit within the employment department.


Clough & Willis has hired Olivia Hepworth as an assistant solicitor. Hepworth joins the commercial property department from Squire Sanders, where she was a trainee.

Ratio Law has recruited Nick Trowell as a commercial property partner. Trowell was formerly an Eversheds partner.

Shulmans has hired Emma Greenwood and Tom Watkins as partner and senior associate respectively. Greenwood joins from Addleshaw Goddard , while Watkins was at Bond Dickinson. Both were formerly directors and will join the corporate finance and employment teams.

LCF Law has hired partner Tom Coates, associate Sarah Buxton and trainee Matthew Jones. All three join from Cohen Cramer and are specialist dental lawyers. Coates was a partner, Buxton a solicitor and Jones a trainee.

George Festing is now an IP partner at Muckle, joining from Forbes Anderson Free, where he was a partner.


Jamie Matthewson has joined HBJ Gateley as head of business development. He was formerly head of services at GPB Solicitors.


Bird & Bird in Paris has hired Anne-Cécile Hansson Lecoanet as a corporate and commercial partner. She was formerly a partner at Jones Day’s Paris office.

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer spin-off Metis has hired two lawyers. Florian Wettner and Heinrich von Bünau join the coporate and disputes departments from Mayer Brown and Gleiss Lutz respectively.

Caroline Ledoux has joined K&L Gates’ litigation department in Paris. She is formerly of Allen & Overy’s office in the same city, where she was counsel.


John Berg has joined Littler in Portland, Oregon. He was formerly counsel at Fisher & Phillips and is now a shareholder.

New Jersey-based Antares Pharma has hired Jennifer Evans Stacey as general counsel and vice-president. She arrives from FXI, where she held the same

Asia Pacific

In Japan, Hoya has hired Augustine Yee as its executive officer, chief legal officer and head of corporate development and affairs. He joins from AstraZeneca, where he was head of Asia Pacific regional and corporate business development.

DLA Piper has appointed Paul Chen, currently of the firm’s Silicon Valley office, as head of Asia corporate, to be based in Hong Kong. Chen, who was previously a partner at Dewey & LeBoeuf before joining DLA Piper in 2012, will relocate from the firm’s Silicon Valley office.

In Singapore, Paul Ng has joined Milbank as an aviation partner. He comes from Stephenson Harwood, where he was also a partner and head of that firm’s aviation department.

Julia Gorman has joined DLA Piper as a partner head of employment for Asia Pacific. She arrives from JP Morgan, where she was also a partner and department head.

Partner promotions

In Hampshire, Eric Robinson Solicitors has made up Emily Taylor (wills and probate) to the partnership.

Kennedys has promoted four partners: Sandy Cho (healthcare and insurance), Matt Deaville (professional indemnity), Dennis Ko (real estate) and Daniel Turner (insurance).

 Anthony Collins has made up three partners: Baljit Basra (corporate and asset management litigation), Jas Tamber (childcare) and Natalie Singh (finance and funding).

Travers Smith has promoted Ben Chivers (commercial, IP and technology) and Jonathan Gilmour (banking and corporate recovery).
