Irwin Mitchell is due to open its ninth UK office in Southampton on 7 April.
The new office will be led by regional managing partner Guy Darlaston, who will transfer from his current role as a personal injury partner in the London office. The office will open with Court of Protection and personal injury teams totaling around 12 people.
The firm then plans to add other private client services including family, public law and private wealth expertise in the near future, with a long-term view to expanding into business legal services.
Group chief executive John Pickering said the firm was already doing a significant amount of legal work in Southampton and the south coast area.
“Our intention is to expand our offering in Southampton, not just in personal legal services. We believe there are significant opportunities to develop our growing business legal services division and build on our existing client base and we will be following those up to expand our presence in the business community,” he added.
Irwin Mitchell’s last office opening was in Bristol in 2010, when personal injury lawyer Jonathan Peacock relocated from Birmingham with clinical negligence associate Julie Lewis (16 February 2010).
In October the firm sold off its Spanish offices in Madrid and Marbella to Cremades & Calvo-Sotelo (1 October 2013).
Irwin Mitchell recorded income of more than £200m for the first time in 2012/13 (17 May 2013).
