Dentons has hired real estate finance partner Simon Tweedle – its fifth partner from Irwin Mitchell in a week.

Tweedle was a partner in Irwin Mitchell’s banking and finance division and specialises in real estate finance.

He has acted for a number of high profile clients including HSBC, Lone Star and Macquarie Bank. He advised HSBC on its £35m residential development loan and Macquarie Bank in relation to a £24.1m loan to refinance a student accommodation block in Bristol.

A spokesperson at Dentons confirmed that Tweedle would be joining the firm but declined to state when he would start.

Tweedle is the fifth partner joining Dentons from Irwin Mitchell in in less than a week. On Friday (19 August) Dentons raided Irwin Mitchell’s London real estate team and picked up four partners including London head of real estate Rob Thompson.

The team also included partners Robert Dowdell, Lewis Myers and head of corporate real estate Jayne Schnider.

With the exception of Schnider all of the partners that joined Dentons were part of a legacy SJ Berwin team. The 20-strong team joined Irwin Mitchell in 2010 to launch the firm’s London real estate offering.

The SJ Berwin team took with them a number of clients including Prestbury, Max Property Group and Raven Russia, which until recently were still advised by the team at Irwin Mitchell. Irwin Mitchell refused to comment on whether the firm will continue to advise these clients.

A spokesperson at Irwin Mitchell said: “Our focus will remain on continuing the impressive growth of our business legal service (BLS) team in recent years, building on the merger with Thomas Eggar and the successful integration work to date.

“The merger added 32 BLS partners, including a London real estate team, and we’ve also added seven further partners to BLS in 2016 alone.”
