Yorkshire firm Schofield Sweeney has hired a corporate partner from India’s biggest law firm Fox Mandal Little.
Kavita Roy, who is qualified to practise both Indian and English law, has joined Schofield’s Bradford office. Her hire will help to position the firm for work from South Asia, in particular from the booming Indian economy.
Fox Mandal has 250 lawyers and operates in eight Indian cities. The firm results from a merger in July last year between Fox Mandal and Mumbai-based Little & Co.
As first reported by The Lawyer (10 April 2006), Schofield itself merged with local firm Sampson Horner in May, adding property, tax and trust practices to its existing commercial law offering. The merged firm retained the Schofield Sweeney name and has a combined turnover of £4m.
Prior to joining Fox Mandal, Roy spent eight years in the M&A team at Mulla & Mulla & Craigie Blunt & Caroe in Mumbai. She has acted for clients including India’s largest media house Bennett Coleman & Company.
