Increasing demand north of the border has led a commercial firm to expand its IT, intellectual property, law and Internet department. Glasgow-based commercial firm MacRoberts has recruited a recently-qualified solicitor for its Glasgow office and an associate solicitor for its Edinburgh office. Neither has been named. According to team member Elaine Kirkland, the current three-strong team has had to expand because of an "increasing amount of work" in the IT and intellectual property sectors, mainly from abroad and from people concerned about the effect of the "millennium bomb" on their computers. MacRoberts is one of only a few Scottish law firms to have developed an IT and IP team with lawyers working solely on these matters.
