MAB woos former Sprecher Grier litigation chief

Matthew Arnold & Baldwin (MAB) has raided City firm Sprecher Grier Halberstam for its former head of litigation Jonathan Sachs.

MAB managing partner Iain Donaldson said the hire was part of a firmwide strategy to build a litigation offering that targets clients in the banking and finance markets. MAB’s clients include Barclays and RBS.

“I want to build a business with people who can bring something to the team,” he said.

Sachs stood down as head of litigation at Sprecher Grier at the beginning of this year and was replaced by David Bailey.

In January MAB hired BP Collins litigation chief Tim Constable to head its commercial litigation practice (The Lawyer, 18 January).

It is the third partner exit from Sprecher Grier since July. Kingsley Napley raided the firm for its IP head Simon Halberstam, then partner Keith Arrowsmith left to join Manchester-based Ralli Solicitors.

The firm said it has no immediate plans to replace Sachs.
