Norton Rose links up with ex-Eversheds friend Boekel

Norton Rose's fledgling Dutch operation is establishing referral relationships with local firms including Eversheds' former ally Boekel De Nerée

The aim is to enable Norton Rose to focus on deal and project management in the Netherlands while avoiding the expense of building full-service capability.

Boekel called off its alliance with Eversheds in May last year and pledged to rebuild its international practice through informal alliances. It is understood that the lack of referrals from Eversheds put the association under strain. Boekel will carry out due diligence work for Norton Rose.

A similar relationship has also been set up with technology, media and telecoms specialist Kennedy Van der Laan, which was previously a member of the Commercial Law Affiliates network, now known as Meritas. Two notarial firms have also been signed up, as Norton Rose's eight-partner office does not have this capability in-house.

Dutch managing partner Arent van Wassenaer said: “We benefit from developing relationships with local Dutch firms for specialist expertise and disciplines that we cannot do and they can do much better. We act as the main contractor or deal manager. Our strategy is to be able to deliver Norton Rose services in the Netherlands in the same way as all over the world, but with special emphasis on high-value corporate finance, banking and tax work.”
