Divorced farmer, Martin White has been allowed to challenge a Court of Appeal ruling on a High Court order that he pay his ex-wife u1.5m instead of u800,000. White and his wife Pamela are both farmers and farmed in equal shares when they married. After they divorced, Family Division judge Mr Justice Holman ordered White to pay u800,000 to his wife and that on receipt of that sum she should transfer all her legal estate to him. However, in the appeal court, Lady Justice Butler-Sloss and Lord Justices Thorpe and Mantell increased the lump sum award to u1.5m. Now though Lords Steyn, Hope and Millett have given leave for White to appeal to the House of Lords.
