Stephenson Harwood and Dechert make layoffs

Stephenson Harwood and Dechert are making redundancies, blaming their decisions in part on post-merger restructuring

Stephenson Harwood, which has just taken over Sinclair Roche & Temperley, is to make 14 lawyers and 20 support staff drawn from across both firms redundant.
Dechert is negotiating redundancy packages with three assistants, one paralegal and 10 support staff.
Chief executive officer Peter Duffel said that Dechert had been reviewing its resources since the transatlantic merger of Titmuss Sainer Dechert and Dechert Price & Rhoads in July 2000.
The lawyer and paralegal redundancies come from property. Support staff redundancies affect finance and IT functions, which are being centralised in the US.
