Date set for Deacons-White & Case HK showdown

The Hong Kong High Court has set down a trial date of 9 September for a suit brought by Deacons against White & Case

The US firm has recruited four partners and a senior assistant from Deacons. Deacons claims the approach was in breach of a non-recruitment clause in a 1999 confidentiality agreement covering unsuccessful merger talks between the two firms.
The case has been put down for a five-day trial and there may be a pre-trial review in late August. White & Case must file a defence by today (22 July) with discovery in mid-August and witness statements submitted by the third week of that month.
White & Case, represented by Nicholas Hunsworth of Johnson Stokes & Master, hopes to settle the suit.
