Building for the future

Law firms always become very enthusiastic when discussing new buildings. Visions of shiny, open-plan space, the latest technology, rooftop gardens and atriums the size of a football pitch makes the eyes of managing partners light up.

So Tulkinghorn was pleased to learn that Norton Rose is installing a webcam to allow its lawyers to watch the progress of its flashy new development. The building, by City Hall near Tower Bridge, is due to be completed in 2007. But the firm reports that the foundations are already being laid and that it is expected to fly up over the next year.

Of course, the danger is that the webcam images will prove so enthralling that everyone at Norton Rose will forget to actually work in favour of keeping an eye on the builders. Nice.
