Who could this be? Word reached Tulkinghorn last week of a Davis Polk & Wardwell partner who was selling his house in the exclusive South London area of Sutton Park. One night came a knock on the door. The partner’s wife was alone in the house, but the man was adamant.
“I insist on seeing the house” he barked. But he had not reckoned on the lady being an ex-copper, and quite rightly she sent him packing.
But not for long. Week after week this chap rocked up, demanding to see the house and wanting to know what the ‘real’ asking price was. “After all,” he is alleged to have said, “I run a law firm.”
Surely there are handier ways of buying a house?
