Gide sees off rivals to win lead role on sale of aircraft manufacturer

Gide Loyrette Nouel has edged out Clifford Chance and Willkie Farr & Gallagher to score its first French instruction from defence company EADS in five years.

The firm advised EADS on the sale of aircraft manufacturer EADS Socata to Daher Group, an aviation equipment company. The deal will complete in two stages, with Daher buying 70 per cent of EADS Socata now and the rest in three years’ time.

Corporate ;partner Hughes Mathez led the Gide team, along with associates Mehdi El Jamali and Herlina Lo in the Paris office.

Mathez said: “At a firm level we’ve been acting for EADS from time to time, but mainly outside of France in places such as China and Ukraine. But as for an M&A deal based in France, this is the first we’ve worked on since EADS was created.
We’ve been trying to develop the relationship with EADS that we used to have. Clifford Chance and Willkie Farr seem to be the main firms, but I hope in a few years we’ll have Gide on that list.”

Daher ;Group ;has instructed SCP Philippe Clément ;& ;Associés founding partner Philippe Clément along with associate Pauline Clémentin.

Gide has also picked up an instruction advising Airbus chief Tom Enders on an insider dealing investigation.
