Iceland firm comes to London on back of investment spree

Iceland’s largest law firm Logos has launched in London to capitalise on the increasing investment by Icelandic companies in the UK.

The firm has joined the City offices of the Scandin-avian alliance firms Vinge, Kromann Reumert and Thommesen. Logos’s London operation is headed by partner Gudmundur Oddsson.

Oddsson told The Lawyer: “Icelandic investment in the UK has been growing rapidly over the past few years, so it was a natural step to open a London office.”

Icelandic companies such as retail giant Baugur Group have seen the UK market as ripe for acquisitions, including those of toy retailer Hamleys and jewellers Mappin & Webb.

“Our role over here is to manage clients investments and acquisitions,” Oddsson said.

Oddsson is running the London operation single-handedly, but the volume of work has been such that the firm is looking to send over a second lawyer to help him.
