Insurance giant Standard Life is planning to beef up its legal capability in Dublin by hiring a lawyer dedicated to the region.

Legal manager Colin Anderson said that although the company has had an office in Dublin since the 1800s, its legal needs have been serviced either by the Scotland-based legal team or external counsel.

“Standard Life is on a voyage of change and keeps doing different types of products,” said Anderson. “We’re looking at bringing in other products, either for the branch in Ireland or the offshore business we opened there last year. We need someone to help with that product development on the legal side.”

Standard Life previously turned to external firms such as A&L Goodbody, but Anderson said it was now vital to have someone on the ground.
